Zola fumes as 'ghost goal' denies Watford away win

No goalline technology or common sense in the Championship, it seems.

GHOST GOALS APPEAR to be en vogue in football at the moment.

Hoffenheim have been denied a replay with Bayer Leverkusen after conceding a phantom goal, which was headed through the side-netting by striker Stefan Kiessling.

Watford then scored a perfectly good goal against Brighton last night only to see play waved on. Fernando Forestieri looked to have put the Championship side 2 — 0 up, after a shocking clearance attempt [see 0:58 in video below], but referee Keith Hill and his officials were not convinced.

Speaking after his side eventually drew 1 — 1, Hornets boss Gianfranco Zola was raging.  ”After today I tell you ‘yes’ [there should be goalline technology],” he told Sky Sports. “I understand the costs are high but, certainly, we have been penalised today.”
