Waterford's Declan Prendergast calls time on intercounty career

Another one bites the dust for the Déise as defender hangs up his boots with the county.

VETERAN WATERFORD HURLER Declan Prendergast has announced his retirement from intercounty hurling.

The Ardmore defender told the Irish Examiner that after over a decade in the trenches with the Déise he ‘had enough done’.

Prendergast’s last run out with the county was in the All-Ireland SHC semi-final defeat to rivals Kilkenny last summer.

He won three provincial medals and a league title in his career.

‘There are a lot of people who are not really serious about hurling’ – Mattie Lennon
