Waterford claim first hurling league win at the expense of Galway

Derek McGrath’s side had six points to spare over their opponents at Walsh Park.

DEREK MCGRATH SAW his Waterford team claim their first victory in Division 1A of the Allianz hurling league this afternoon against Galway in Walsh Park.

The Deise bounced back from last Saturday’s loss to Tipperary to have six points to spare over the Tribesmen.

Galway entered the game buoyed by last week’s comprehensive success over Dublin but they trailed by 0-9 to 0-8 at the interval with Pauric Mahony scoring freely for the Deise.

Newcomer Jason Flynn from the Tommie Larkins club hit the net in the second-half for Galway as they drew level at 1-11 to 0-14. But Ray Barry notched a few points as Waterford pulled clear in the finale.
