WATER HAZARDS ARE designed to punish golfers, but the lake by the 14th hole of Carbrook Golf Club in Brisbane, Australia, is potentially the most penal in all of golf.
Recent flooding in the area displaced a handful of bull sharks, a notoriously aggressive species capable of surviving in freshwater environments, that have now taken up residence in Carbrook’s largest water hazard. The fish, varying in sive from four to ten feet, appear to be thriving.
The club’s general manager, Scott Wagstaff, told Sky News that members have responded positively to the course’s newest inhabitants.
“There’s no drama, it’s become a positive thing for the golf course. They are amazing. I’ve become a shark lover since working here.”
The sharks have even helped business since becoming local sensations, proving the inspiration behind a monthly competition, the “Shark Lake Challenge”.
