As Maradona posed in front of a banner displaying a message from his family, one youngster repeatedly lifted up the banner in an effort to catch a glimpse of the legend.
Naturally, Diego didn’t take to kindly to the interference, delivering his famous left boot to the troublesome hand.
The banner had been sent to Dubai by Maradona’s daughters. It read: “Babu Estoy con vos te amo — Benja”, meaning “Grandfather, I love you and I am with you” and was signed by his grandson Benjamin.
Maradona later apologised to the fan, according to the Telegraph. “I am emotional, this is my nature. I’ve always been like this as a player and coach.”
The sign was a message from my grandson and daughters in Manchester and Argentina and it means they support me in whatever I do. I apologise to the fan I hurt but I wanted the banner to be seen.
It wasn’t all bad news for the great one however, as Al Wasl went on to register their first competitive victory under Maradona’s stewardship, defeating Emirates 3-0 in the Etisalat Cup.
