4 or 5 sessions a day in 'deepest, darkest Poland' -- George North looks ahead to World Cup prep

Anyone up for a nice jog round the park instead?

WHOA THERE GEORGE! Run us back through that exhausting schedule in front of Welsh players in Spala again?

  • Hypertrophy weights session before breakfast.
  • Fitness session.
  • Cryotherapy.
  • Second weight session.
  • Cryotherapy.
  • Rehab.
  • Third weight session.

No wonder Wales have the biggest back-line around.

Warren Gatland and his new fitness coach Paul Stridgeon currently have the squad in Fiescheralp, Switzerland, to begin their grueling pre-World Cup schedule at altitude. Players are housed in rooms over 2,000 metres above sea level and train a thousand metres below that in the Alpine valley.

That will be followed up by hot-weather training camps in Doha where they will sleep in altitude tents to keep the positive effects from their Swiss adventure.

However, it’s their now regular trip to Poland which always sounds the most daunting, as they will slog through 10 days of the above checklist.
