Wales edge Scotland in thrilling end-to-end encounter full of great tries

Scotland weren’t clinical enough to eke out the win.

Wales 26-23 Scotland

WALES JUST ABOUT left Murrayfield with a win after a highly entertaining clash with Scotland that saw both sides cross from excellent tries.

Wales struck first after Blair Cowan was penalised for not rolling away and Leigh Halfpenny converted the resulting penalty.

Moments later the home side pounced for the opening try. Alex Cuthbert was turned over in midfield and the ball was quickly worked to Stuart Hogg who scorched down the left wing untouched to score under the posts.

Finn Russell extended Scotland’s lead but Halfpenny hit back for Wales after the visitors enjoyed a spell of possession in the Scottish 22.

Ten minutes before half time Finn Russell was yellow carded for taking Dan Biggar out in the air and Halfpenny reduced the gap to the minimum.

Wales then took the lead with an excellent try after Liam Williams’ break down the left wing created enough space for him to feed Rhys Webb and the scrum-half touched down in the corner.

Halfpenny converted but moments later Jonathan Davies was sent to the bin for tackling a man in the air.

Scotland had a host of chances to score their second try but Wales’ defence held firm to take a six-point lead in at the break.

In the second half, Scotland reduced the gap to three after two Laidlaw penalties to one from Halfpenny before Jonathan Davies crossed for a key try.

The centre broke the line in the Scottish 22 before bamboozling Hogg with a dummy.

Scotland had numerous opportunities to get back in the game but just like in the first half, Wales were always able to scramble back to prevent a try.

Jim Hamilton did burrow over at the death but there was no time left on the clock for Scotland to try and take the lead and Wales got their first win of the 2015 Six Nations.
