Martin critical of UCI representatives after 'most painful' crash

The Garmin-Sharp rider suffered a concussion and serious abrasions 11 kilometres from the finish yesterday.

IRELAND’S DAN MARTIN has hit out at race organisers after he was forced to pull out of La Vuelta a España before today’s eighth stage.

The Garmin-Sharp man crashed 11 kilometres from yesterday’s finish line while part of a bunched peloton.

The Tour de France stage winner complained of concussion, despite having chased the pack for the remainder.

Last night, he tweeted:

This morning, Martin added a severely critical barb at race organisers for a lack of compassion and awareness of rider safety.
