The mighty Quinn helps Vincent's retain Leinster title with comfortable win over Rhode

The Dublin side never gave their Offaly opponents a sniff in Navan today.

St. Vincent’s (Dublin) 1-12

Rhode (Offaly) 0-6

DEFENDING LEINSTER CHAMPIONS St. Vincent’s enjoyed a comfortable win over Offaly side Rhode in their provincial football decider at Páirc Tailteann, Navan this afternoon.

The Dublin side created a number of goal chances in the early minutes but had to settle for points from Ciaran Dorney and Gavin Burke before Mossy Quinn finally found the back of the net after great work from Diarmuid Connolly set him free.

By 23 minutes Vincent’s lead was 1-5 to no score before Niall McNamee finally troubled the scoreboard for the Offaly champions. However, they only added one more score before the break to trail 1-5 to 0-2 at half time.

As they did in the first, Vincent’s had the better of the opening exchanges in the second half and a red card for Pauric Sullivan on 39 minutes after a clash with Connolly – the latter picked up a yellow – all but ended Rhode’s chances.

By 50 minutes, the defending champions had stretched their lead to nine points thanks to Cormac Diamond’s effort and though Rhode reduced their deficit to seven with three minutes to play, late scores from Shane Carthy and Quinn sealed a comfortable victory for Vincent’s.

They will go on to play Corofin in the All-Ireland club SFC semi-final.

Scorers for St. Vincent’s: Mossy Quinn 1-4 (0-2f), Gavin Burke 0-2, Ciaran Dorney, Shane Carthy, Diarmuid Connolly, Cormac Diamond Ruairi Treanor and Brendan Egan 0-1 each.
Scorers for Rhode: Niall Darby and Niall McNamee 0-2 (0-1f) each, Conor McNamee and Anton Sullivan 0-1 each.
