MANUEL PELLEGRINI HAS revealed that Vincent Kompany sustained a hamstring injury in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Southampton on Sunday, throwing his participation in the midweek clash with Sunderland into doubt.
The Belgium international limped off in the closing stages, with City already down to 10 men, and Pellegrini admitted afterwards that he will be assessed later today as the club seek to discover whether the problem is simply cramp or if he will face an enforced absence.

“Kompany has a problem with his hamstring,” he told reporters.
The Belgium defender has missed only one league match this season, the 2-2 draw with QPR at the start of November, but has spent time on the sidelines with calf, groin and hamstring complaints in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, Eliaquim Mangala, who has endured a difficult transition to English football following his €40 million move from Porto this summer, had earlier been sent off for a second bookable offence.
The red card did not harm City’s flow, however, with Pellegrini’s men adding two goals on the counterattack to move second in the Premier League table.
However, with Kompany carrying an injury and Mangala set to be suspended for the meeting with Sunderland, Pellegrini may have to call on Martin Demichelis and, possibly, Dedryck Boyata for the trip to the Stadium of Light.
