PATRICK VIEIRA HAS announced his retirement from football in order to take up a ‘football development executive’ role at former club Manchester City.
The 35-year-old former Arsenal, Juventus and Inter Milan midfielder was Roberto Mancini’s first signing as City manager in January 2010 but only started 12 Premier League games in his 18 months with the club.
“I am confident that I can make a significant contribution to the club’s ongoing success.”

As well as having a glittering club career, Vieira was a key part of the French international side that won both the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championships.

“This role is a fantastic new challenge for me and I am very grateful to Manchester City for offering me this opportunity,” Vieira told the official Manchester City website.
