USAIN BOLT GOT his season off to a familiar winning start yesterday. However the 150 metre track alongside the Copacabana beach made this race anything but normal.
Three years out from the next Olympic Games in the city, Bolt carried his London form to Rio with a 14.42 second finish – only .07 seconds slower than his previous best over the distance.

The four man race consisted of Brazilian Bruno Lins, Ecuador’s Alex Quinonez and Daniel Bailey of Antigua, but all three had faded into the distance before Bolt reached the 100 metre mark.
“It was different. I’ve never competed at this hour in the day. It’s always been the evening so this was kind of different,” Bolt told reporters.
“The sun was really hot but I enjoyed it because I’m used to this weather in Jamaica. So for me it was OK but next time would prefer if it’s in the evening and not so hot.”
Bolt said the run, albeit non-competitive, was his first for the season and he was satisfied with his performance three years out from the Olympic Games in Brazil.
“I haven’t been doing much sprinting, so for me to run and be injury-free in 14.42 – it’s a very good time so I can’t complain,” he said.
