IT’S OFTEN CLAIMED that Lionel Messi isn’t quite as magisterial when he plays for Argentina as he is when he’s leading the line for Barcelona.

Well, whether that’s true or not – though his goals-per-game ratio would suggest that he’s not quite as potent for la Albiceleste - last night he showed that even after a long and tiring season, he’s still pretty damn amazing.

This is his goal against Ecuador last night – the fourth in Argentina’s 4-0 win – and yeah, he’s pretty awesome, isn’t he?

This effort is his 79th goal of the season, adding six for the international team to the 73 he scored for Barca.

He may get a chance to notch up his 80th when Argentina close their season next Saturday with a friendly against their oldest foes, Brazil, at the MetLife stadium in New Jersey.
