IRELAND STRIKER ROBBIE Keane got the Martin O’Neill era off to a positive start at the Aviva Stadium this evening.

The striker was on hand to tap home after Aiden McGeady’s corner was headed on, consequently giving Ireland a 1-0 lead over Latvia.

Keane’s 62nd international goal handed the hosts a deserved lead, as they have dominated the opening stages and subsequently spurned some decent chances to extend their advantage.

McGeady then doubled Ireland’s advantage midway through the second half, with a powerful right-footed strike from distance.

Shane Long then added a third, putting the victory beyond all doubt, latching on to Seamus Coleman’s cross.
