VIDEO: Protester disrupts Boat Race

Trenton Oldfield put his neck on the line for what he believes and halted the historical event for a good 20 minutes.

THE VARSITY BOAT race was dealt a major hiccup today as a wetsuited protester made his way into the Thames to disrupt the historical rivalry.

Since 1829 Oxford and Cambridge have contested the race with Cambridge enjoying 80 wins before today and Oxford, 76.

Few races will be remembered like this one however as Trenton Oldfield breast-stroked his way into infamy.

Oldfield was reportedly protesting at elitism so made his way into the path of the oncoming oarsmen. He damn near has his head taken off.

Oxford led at the time of the disruption and it took a full 20 minutes for organisers to restart proceedings. There was also some conjecture whether Oxford should be allowed a head start.

No quarter was given and Cambridge went on to win their 81st race.

Incidentally, The Telegraph report that Oldfield was given a jolly good booing as police led him away.
