VIDEO: New Zealand's Shane Smeltz has his head busted wide open

And, incredibly, the referee decided to award a goal kick!

YOU’VE GOT TO feel for New Zealand striker Shane Smeltz, who was on the receiving end of several studs to the face earlier today.

Drawing 1-1 with New Caledonia in their World Cup qualifier, which they eventually won 2-1, Smeltz was assaulted in the opponent’s box while trying to get on the end of a high ball.

The player began pouring blood from his forehead and looked on in disbelief as the referee awarded New Caeldonia a goal-kick.

Baffling.
