THE DAY AFTER the game that shook the hurling world and people are still trying to make sense of what unfolded in Croke Park yesterday.

A Kilkenny team, commonly regarded as the greatest the sport has ever seen, entered the provincial final against Galway with a group of players and a body of form that suggested they would claim a straightforward success. Yet they were overturned in remarkable fashion by a Galway side that dominated from the off and established a substantial advantage on the scoreboard.

Anthony Cunningham’s men now advance to the All-Ireland semi-final stage but what of the side that they conquered? Kilkenny will now get set for an All-Ireland quarter-final tie later this month with the victors of this weekend’s qualifier ties set to provide the opposition. The challenge that now awaits Brian Cody and his players  is to resurrect their season.
