IN THE AFTERMATH of Mayo’s first back-to-back Connacht title since 1997, manager James Horan described the final win over Sligo as “a bit of a battle”.
The defending champions recorded a two-point win, 0-12 to 0-10, in front of a 23,257-strong crowd at Dr Hyde Park yesterday afternoon but found it difficult to get any sort of fluency in their game.
And speaking to TV3 after the final whistle, Horan blamed the team’s rustiness and admitted they were nervous at times before adding that the effort and resilience shown was encouraging.
When asked about the statement released by Conor Mortimer’s family earlier in the week, Horan responded: “It’s just beyond belief to warrant a comment on something like that.
“There’s a lot of people around Mayo who know the facts and that statement doesn’t contain many. It’s old news at this stage.”
