VIDEO: BBC Northern Ireland's moving tribute to Ulster's Nevin Spence

The poignant piece was aired before Mark Anscombe’s side played Connacht on at the weekend.

BBC NORTHERN IRELAND featured a poignant video tribute before Friday’s PRO12 coverage of Ulster versus Connacht to mark the tragic passing of homegrown rugby star Nevin Spence.

Screened to the soundtrack song The Captain by Kasey Chambers, the video showed footage of Spence’s career with Ulster and candid images from interviews and training sessions with teammates.

Spence, along with his father Noel and brother Graham, passed away on 15 September following an accident on the family farm in Hillsborough, County Down.

Speaking to BBC NI before the game, which Ulster went on to win 25-0, Ulster Rugby chief executive Shane Logan said the large numbers that came out to pay tribute to the Spence family in the past month was ‘truly exceptional for an exceptional individual’.

He also confirmed that the team jersey would display the initials N.S for the remainder of the season.
