Vending machine doles out mountain bikes and surfboards to chuffed Americans

The British Columbia tourist board came up with a unique way to tempt sports lovers and outdoor enthusiasts north of the border.

NOT HAPPY WITH being home to the most successful Winter Olympics in recent history, British Columbia is tempting adventurers and sports lovers through a novel campaign.

The B.C tourist board set up a giant vending machine in San Francisco this week and offered members of the public a taste of the outdoor lifestyle that is synonymous with the Canadian province.

Passers-by were encouraged to line up and select one of 100 ‘Great B.C Moments’ from the vending machine.

They were rewarded with free gifts that ranged from skis and surfboards to travel books and native artwork.

The province received a huge tourism boost in 2010 when Vancouver hosted the Winter Olympics and it is hoped that the vending machine campaign will continue the upward trend of flocking visitors.
