Manchester United striker Robin van Persie

Van Persie hints at United exit for 'family reasons'

The Manchester United striker admits he is in a ‘strange’ situation amid talks of a possible off-season departure.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE revealed he is evaluating his future at Manchester United, with the welfare of his family key to any decision.

Van Persie is about to enter the final season of his contract following a disappointing campaign at Old Trafford that only yielded 10 goals, while Louis van Gaal has been linked with a host of new strikers.

Italian champions Juventus and Turkish giants Fenerbahce have emerged as suitors for the 31-year-old, who is likely to be given a reduced role at United next term.

Van Persie admitted his future in Manchester is up in the air.

“It’s a strange, difficult situation. A new situation, that’s a better word. I have to think in a realistic way,” said Van Persie, who is preparing for Netherlands’ international friendly against United States on Friday.

“The club is doing that [evaluating] as well. I must consider what I really want.

“If I contemplate the negative and say I won’t play much next season, that wouldn’t be good for me with Euro 2016 coming up.

“It’s my ambition to play the next years. I’m thinking about my family and my children with every decision I take.

“These are very important for me. I’m a real family guy. I think it’s fantastic to see how happy my children and wife are. That’s something I take into consideration when I’m thinking about my future.”

The former Arsenal striker added: “Manchester United is a beast and that has two sides. Manchester United is viewed and followed by more people than at other clubs, and also more media.

“I have to deal with that. I made that choice and must accept the consequences.”

He was told SAF wouldn’t be retiring anytime soon. The main reason he actually joined united

Hmm ah you would wonder if a guy who released pictures of himself in a united shirt as a teenager really joined the club if the ‘main’ reason was Sir Alex was the manager – you either had the ‘boyhood dream’ of playing for the club or you didn’t -the fact you got to enjoy a year /won a title and played brilliantly under the greatest manager that ever lived was surely a bonus – or is there another pic in a juventus short waiting to be released when joining them becomes a dream come true ?

If you read SAF’s autobiography he said the main reason utd signed Kagawa an Van Persie was because they had been told Ferguson wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon. Unlike your information this is actually reliable

I actually got that he was considering staying with United because his family were happy there from those quotes?

I think he means he will stay at United for his family even though it might not be good for his career in the long run. His 8 year old son is with the Man City youth teams so he doesn’t want to uproot them again.

He’s been injured the last year. Still gets goals even his playing time is staggered. The dutch need him playing well more so at the moment too!
