FORMER MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes Louis van Gaal will bring a lot of success to the club if he is given enough time.
David Moyes’ solitary season at the helm since succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson was a disaster as United finished seventh in the Premier League, but, after a rocky start to 2014-15, Sunday’s 2-1 win over Everton saw the club record consecutive victories for the first time this term and move up to fourth place.

The Red Devils have spent big on the likes of Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera this summer and Schmeichel believes the new coach could achieve the same success as Ferguson as the Scot also had a rough start before carrying the club to the pinnacle of English and European football.
“Manchester United will always be my home, part of me,” Schmeichel told Goal. “Alex Ferguson is not there anymore and the club is going through difficult times but I believe bringing Louis van Gaal was a good move. The new team and new coach just need time; it is not easy to reach that level that Ferguson’s United was at.
“If you can remember, it took Ferguson some time to manage things in his way too and, after that, he ruled for two decades.” S
chmeichel was involved in an incident recounted in former team-mate Roy Keane’s new autobiography, in which the Irishman claims to have headbutted his colleague.
Asked about the story, the Dane replied: “No comment.”
