Rafael van der Vaart is out of the World Cup

Louis van Gaal has cut the injured midfielder from his final squad for Brazil.

HOLLAND HAVE BEEN dealt a setback this morning with the news that Rafael van der Vaart has been ruled out of the World Cup.

The experienced midfielder was cut from Louis van Gaal’s final squad after he failed to recover from a calf strain in his right leg.

A veteran of two World Cups, van der Vaart was the most-capped player in van Gaal’s provisional panel with 109 international appearances.

Holland open their campaign against reigning world champions Spain on 13 June.

The Oranje, who finished as runners-up in South Africa four years ago, are currently 30/1 shots to win the tournament.
