VALENCIA HAVE ANNOUNCED West Brom boss Carlos Corberan as their new head coach on a deal until June 2027.
The La Liga strugglers dismissed Ruben Baraja on Monday after taking only 12 points from their first 17 games and immediately turned their sights on former youth player Corberan.
The Baggies confirmed the deal after compensation, reported to be in the region of 3million euros (£2.49m), was agreed on Christmas Eve. Valencia formally announced their new man in the early hours of Christmas Day.
A statement from Valencia’s official website read: “Carlos Corberan has been appointed as coach of Valencia CF, signing a contract through to 2027.
“A buy-out option in his contract with West Bromwich Albion was taken up to allow him to leave.”

The Spaniard joined West Brom in October 2022 and guided them from the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone to the top 10 before a play-off semi-final defeat by Southampton last season.
They have started this term positively as well and currently sit in seventh place, outside the play-off places only on goals scored.
West Brom chairman Shilen Patel wrote on X: “I want to thank Carlos for all of his hard work since his arrival at the Albion at one of the most challenging times in the club’s modern era.
“I am grateful for his contributions and wish Carlos and his family all the best on his new journey!”
Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill will oversee first-team duties until further notice, the Championship club confirmed.
That decision just goes to prove that New Zealand receive unfair bias from referee’s. Absolutely no difference between that tackle without the ball and the one on Ringrose on Saturday, yet the AB’s get a oenalty try from it!!!!
@Peter Dunne: are we suprised?
@Peter Dunne: I’d imagine it was clarified to the referees after Saturday that it should be penalty try. Notice the discussion on the last yellow card was a lot different than the weekend games, in Aus game there was straight yellow card when the lad tried to intercept with two hands!
Hopefully the All Blacks will continue to implode. Red card the lot of them until the message sticks. Entertainment is bandied about as the only reason they play on the edge (cheat). It’s about time the Sport of Rugby Union was respected again.
@Mick O’Shea: i hope they learn and adapt. A lot of it is not their fault, super rugby has not been reffed properly and they’ve not learned to adjust. Loving the early advantage over call in this game
@Ciaran Kennedy: No. I like what I said better.
Amazing how penalty try for Maori / none awarded to Irish on Saturday for similar.
@Pat O’Leary: kiwi commentators said the difference is Sexton didn’t throw the pass and the Maori player did
@Nicholas Ryan: the ref on Saturday said there was cover and that was his reason for not awarding the penalty try, there was no cover, and the pass wasn’t made by Sexton because his only possible pass was prevented by foul play. But we still won today, and on Saturday, it would be so much worse to be looking at these decisions in the context of losses.
@Nicholas Ryan: the commentator was wrong though. The ref clearly said on Saturday that there was cover.
Pretty gracious comments from TJ Perenara afterwards.
Bealham injured in the warm up so 80 minutes for O’Toole and on the bench for Saturday.
@Sustainable Hedgehog: only a niggle or precautions?
@Gary Galligan: Is that confirmed? Hope so.
Nobody ever say that frawley is the future number 10 again please
@Matthew Delaney: ….has had a poor start to be fair….
@Matthew Delaney: and now???
@Matthew Delaney: Give him a chance, he’s new to the position and it’s lashing.
@Matthew Delaney: poor start but he’s finding his feet to be fair …can’t bin a guy after 1.25 games….let’s see how he manages the 2nd half. Been a decent first half…….pack have showed well. Casey good at 9…outside backs haven’t really been obvious from an attacking sense but good defensively….would like to see back 3 get some front foot ball
@Keith McNamara: I couldn’t watch the second half, obviously he played better, if he’s going to be a 10 why in the name of God isn’t Leinster playing him there…. because he’s not good enough maybe??
@Michael Murray: …but encouraging as game went on…..well done….10 role at that level is a craftsman’s job. Give him a bit more time at it is a fair and reasonable call.
@Matthew Delaney: he was excellent today. Tackled brilliantly, kicked well in horrible conditions (apart from the one missed touch, but again, horrible conditions) passed intelligently and controlled the game well. But you’re right, that missed touch and one dropped ball, send him back to Ireland and never play him again – a measured comment.
@Matthew Delaney: Well they do have 3 Irish international 10s at Leinster so there’s a bit of a backlog there. He had a good 2nd half and I’d say that was a successful run out for him today. Few decent performances today ….I’ve never rated treadwell but was good today …set piece for the most part was good, and back row played well good half backs ….outside backs were decent without setting the world alight but not that sort of night I guess. Sets up a massive game on Saturday…..huge pressure on ABS now ..fosters Job could be on the line…will make them a very dangerous proposition.
@amusing_musings: might aswell get him to cover front row aswell, apparently there’s no specialist positions anymore, anyone can do it, just give them games
@Keith McNamara: well exactly, Leinster reckon there’s three better outhalves, Farrel thinks he’s the man… who’s wrong?
World cup quarter final sexton gets injured, maybe carberry already and prone to injury, frawley is what’s left???
@Matthew Delaney: I’d imagine you had that comment ready to go before the game even started. Frawley was brilliant today. One or two small errors as is to be expected but controlled the game very well and played with great confidence. Commentators were very complementary. Keep up the great analysis though Matthew.
@Matthew Delaney: I’m not sure what your point is. It sounds like regardless of how he played today you were going to say he was bad because he’s not first choice for Leinster.
Delighted Maori coach saw fit to drop Zarn Sullivan from FB after he lit up first game, genius move / great to see it working out!!
@Pat O’Leary: Did he not get called up to the senior squad?
@thesaltyurchin: Not that I heard / apparently he’s earmarked for it down the line though.
Who is the touch judge trying to downgrade the yellow?
@Sustainable Hedgehog: that dialogue was good to see, some things need to be interpreted and if the officials have difference’s they need to sort it out. The TMO agreed with ref and that was it.
To be fair, it’s not easy to impress in a totally scratch side. Any of the Irish players slotted into the 1st XV would find it easier.
We didn’t get a match livethread for any all Ireland quarter finals but we get one for a meaningless match between Ireland B and New Zealand B???
@Ciarán: Go back to bed.
@Ciarán: Reflect.
Jeez, just up the jumper and it’s ours by a country mile
Stop kicking to their back 3….up the jersey and suck them into a tight game.
@Michael Murray: The yardage tho
@Michael Murray: why, it’s working for us
@Ciaran Kennedy: @ 71mins that’s why!!
@Michael Murray: that one was a bit odd. The lack of chase from what was a precalled move. Lowe didn’t actually have much to do there, Timoney was sluggish getting there and there was a huge gap
……kicking to a lightning back 3 who only want to play Barbarian style rugby does not make sense to say the least
@Michael Murray: when our defence is up for it and they have a poor return kicking game it did. Plus it made great viewing ☺️
Thoughts about Scannell’s throwing?
@Sustainable Hedgehog: Irish lineout def not great / not sure what it’s down to.
Had to be a pen teyt
