OLEKSANDR USYK will face Tyson Fury in a rematch on 21 December in Riyadh, the top Saudi organiser said on Wednesday, after winning their undisputed heavyweight boxing bout earlier this month.
The undefeated Ukrainian won by split decision against Britain’s Fury in the Saudi capital on 19 May in the first unification fight of the four-belt era.
“The rematch between the undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk and the champion Tyson Fury is now scheduled on the 21 of December 2024 during Riyadh Season,” Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Britain’s Lennox Lewis won the last undisputed heavyweight championship against Evander Holyfield in 1999. Both men were ringside as Usyk handed Fury, 35, his first defeat.
The 37-year-old Ukrainian, who briefly served as a soldier after the Russian invasion, was also undisputed champion at cruiserweight and won Olympic, world and European honours as an amateur.
Looking forward to it. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes. Will John Fury still be in Tyson Fury’s corner? Who will learn the most from the first fight? That could determine the winner. If Usyk keeps forcing the pace Fury could be in trouble.
@Richard Ford: he really needs to get rid of “big john”. He had sugar hill steward and andy lee giving him food technical advice last week and all you could hear was john shouting over them. He’s damaging his career.
@Brian Dunne: *good
@Brian Dunne: It’s the classic case of a man not knowing his limits Brian. John Fury is doing a lot more harm than good.
@ Brian Dunne. Correct Brian. The man is complete embarresment. Making everything about himself.
Tyson was far better off fighting in the states as it’s a country his father can’t get into, absolute waffle coming out of him in the corner, can’t see him changing either.
