WE’VE HAD OUR fair share of bad experiences on the golf course, but nothing quite like the nightmare an American professional golfer endured during qualifying for the US Open earlier this week.
Clifton McDonald was trying to seal a spot in next month’s Major at Erin Hills but had a day to forget as he failed to card a single par, and managed just two bogeys, on his way to a remarkable 55-over round of 127.

His scorecard was posted on Twitter by fellow golfer Lee McCoy.
My last tweet got a little more attention than I expected. To the man who shot 127, if you're reading this, I'm sorry. #NeverGiveUp
McDonald started on the 10th hole at Silver Lakes in Alabama and a double bogey seven set the tone for what was to come as he reached the turn in 68 strokes. His front nine included a 14 on the par-five 16th and an 11 on the 18th.
But, to his credit, he bravely soldiered on when it would have been easy to pack it in and his second nine was an improvement with a 59.
Needless to say, he didn’t qualify for the US Open.

We'd back ourselves to shoot a better score than this pro golfer did in US Open qualifying
