IRELAND’S AMATEUR BOXERS are continuing in their quest to book their tickets to London this summer at the final qualification event in Turkey.
Earlier, welterweight Adam Nolan marched into the last-eight of his division in Trabzon. The Wexford man claimed a 14-9 points decision over Poland’s Tomasz Kot.
“It’s his first time at this level,” high performance coach, Billy Walsh said afterwards. “And he put in a good performance to beat the Pole. He’s still in the draw and as the fella said he’s only two fights away from it. Quite happy now, looking forward to it, it’ll be a good battle.”
There wasn’t such good news for Ross Hickey however, as he was beaten by Moldovan Dmitri Galagot. The light welterweight was up against it from the start and playing catch-up in the final round, he took a standing count before ultimately losing out on a scoreline of 24-11.
