Ulster Rally cancelled after competitor killed in a crash

A second man is in serious condition this evening following the incident.

THE REST OF this year’s Ulster Rally event has been called off after one of the competitors was killed today in a crash during the race.

Police confirmed the fatality in a statement this evening, adding that a second competitor has been airlifted to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where his condition is described as serious.

The Northern Ireland Motor Club, which runs the annual rally driving event, issued the following statement this evening:

As a mark of respect to family and friends of the competitor who was involved in today’s fatal accident in the Ulster Rally, the organisers have decided to cancel the remainder of the 2014 event.
