DUSTIN POIRIER SETTLED his rivalry with Eddie Alvarez by sealing a TKO victory last night in the main event at UFC on FOX 30 in Calgary, Canada.
Poirier, who called out lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov afterwards, stopped Alvarez with a flurry of strikes in a wild second round in their rematch.
When the pair clashed in May of last year, the fight was waved off late in the second round and declared a ‘no contest’ due to Alvarez landing an illegal knee.

Another Alvarez foul was significant last night. After the former 155-pound title-holder threw a 12-to-6 elbow — which hit Poirier’s shoulder — referee Marc Goddard stood the fight up. From there, Poirier set about securing the finish.
Now undefeated in his last five outings — a run which includes wins over two former lightweight champions (Alvarez and Anthony Pettis) — Poirier believes a title shot should be next: “What else do I have to do here? Khabib, where you at?”
It may not have been a night to remember for Eddie Alvarez, but there were better fortunes for two other former champions on the main card.
Following a pair of losses to Max Holloway, ex-featherweight king Jose Aldo picked up his first win since July 2016 by overcoming Jeremy Stephens in the first round, setting up a TKO stoppage with a vicious body shot.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who lost her strawweight title and undefeated record with back-to-back defeats against Rose Namajunas, returned to winning ways by seeing off Tecia Torres on the scorecards.
