AFTER A 23-MONTH absence from the octagon, Conor McGregor will return to mixed martial arts in less than eight weeks’ time.
The Dubliner will bid to regain the lightweight title when he takes on reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event at UFC 229 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

As usual, a sizeable contingent of McGregor’s fans are expected to make the journey to Vegas, while there’s also set to be a substantial TV viewership for the event in the early hours of Sunday, 7 October.
There are plenty of match-ups still to be confirmed for the card, but following the official announcement of five bouts this week, the UFC 229 bill is now starting to take shape.
While it has yet to be finalised, UFC president Dana White told ESPN that the co-main event is likely to be a meeting of heavyweight contenders Derrick Lewis (ranked #2) and Alexander Volkov (#5).
Among the fights that have been confirmed is a flyweight contest — Sergio Pettis (#2) versus Jussier Formiga (#5) — which could have major significance in the 125-pound division.
We’ll keep you abreast of updates to the card as they happen over the coming days and weeks, but here’s how it’s looking as things stand:
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor
Derrick Lewis vs. Alexander Volkov (TBC)
Sergio Pettis vs. Jussier Formiga
Ovince Saint Preux vs. Dominick Reyes
Michelle Waterson vs. Felice Herrig
Ryan LaFlare vs. Tony Martin
Lina Länsberg vs. Yana Kunitskaya
