Johnson: aiming to break Anderson Silva's record.

Disaster for UFC 215 as Mighty Mouse's chance to make history cancelled

Title challenger Ray Borg pulls out of Saturday’s main event with a virus.

DEMETRIOUS JOHNSON’S FLYWEIGHT title defence against Ray Borg, the main event on Saturday’s UFC 215 card, has been cancelled.

‘Mighty Mouse’, the number one pound-for-pound fighter, was bidding to break Anderson Silva’s record with an 11th straight title defence in Edmonton.

But his challenger Borg was forced to pull out of the event with a virus, the UFC confirmed overnight.

The women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko will be the new main event.

“Due to a viral illness to UFC flyweight contender Ray Borg, the main event bout against champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC 215 has been cancelled,” a statement read.

“Borg was deemed unfit to compete by the UFC medical team.

“UFC 215, which is now headlined by the women’s bantamweight championship between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko, will proceed as scheduled with 11 bouts at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada.

“Moving to the Pay-Per-View main card will be the flyweight bout between Henry Cejudo and Wilson Reis. Additionally, the Mitch Clarke and Alex White lightweight contest will now kick off the FS1 prelims.”
