THIS HIGH STAKES encounter didn’t disappoint as Tyrone dealt with Meath’s second half rally to advance to the All Ireland quarter finals.
Tyrone face Ulster champions Monaghan in the last eight and they will enter that contest heartened following a fourth straight success.
Wins over Offaly, Roscommon, Kildare, and Meath ensure Tyrone have generated momentum and there was evidence of their potential during a first half they ruled.
They were on top despite the seventh minute concession of a goal to Meath’s Eamonn Wallace, who was immense throughout.

But Tyrone had significant contributors themselves as Sean Cavanagh was splendid at centrefield finishing with an eight point haul.
Most of those arrived at key moments especially when Meath were beginning to pose questions of Tyrone’s resolve.
Darren McCurry was sharp from frees too for Tyrone, who went in at the break armed with a 0-11 to 1-4 advantage.
Amazingly Tyrone manufactured 15 opportunities during the first half taking 11 which was a credit to their clinical efficiency.
After the break, though, they weren’t allowed to be as composed as Meath thundered into the reckoning following a 40th minute Mickey Newman penalty.
Meath hit the front, 2-7 to 0-12 courtesy of Wallace on 51 minutes, but Tyrone responded dictating the rhythm late on.
Inevitably Cavanagh was the architect kicking frees from all sorts of angles and though Meath pushed for a last gasp goal Tyrone had done enough damage.
Tyrone only scored 0-6 from 15 shots at the target and while that was down on their earlier figures it didn’t truly matter as Meath couldn’t get the third major they required.
