LAOIS PRODUCED A major upset this afternoon to reach the county’s first Leinster minor hurling final since 1991 with a four-point victory over Wexford.
The home fans in O’Moore Park in Portlaoise were left delighted by the performance of the side managed by Pat Critchley.
Stephen Bergin’s early goal gave Laois a great start after great work by Darragh Cripps as they went ahead by 1-2 to 0-3.
But Wexford fought back to lead by 0-8 to 1-4 at the interval with Conor McDonald to the fore up front.
The teams were still all square at 1-9 to 0-12 entering the last quarter.
However Laois produced a storming finale with Cripps, John Lennon and Ciaran McEvoy amongst the point-scorers as they ran out four-point victors.
Laois now go forward to face Kilkenny in the decider in Croke Park on July 7th.

Roscommon 0-12 Sligo 1-5

Roscommon’s dream of landing a third consecutive Connacht minor football title remains intact after they got the better of Sligo this afternoon.
The Rossies enjoyed a four-point win over the Yeats county in a match played in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Roscommon lead by 0-5 to 0-2 at half-time after having been ahead by 0-3 to 0-2 at the close of the opening quarter.
Ultan Harney, Diarmuid Murtagh and Diarmuid McGann all notched early second-half points for Roscommon before Sligo were boosted by Kevin McDonnell striking home the only goal of the game.
Sligo managed to cut the deficit to a single point, 0-9 to 1-5, entering the finale as Roscommon were clinging onto their advantage.
But Murtagh and McGann popped up with crucial late points to help Roscommon triumph.
Ulster MFC semi-final
Tyrone 1-12 Down 0-10

Tyrone booked their place in this year’s provincial minor decider in Ulster with a five-point win this afternoon in Kingspan Breffni Park.
A late goal by substitute Stephen McGrath sealed the victory for a Tyrone side who will now face either Monaghan or Cavan, who meet next Saturday night, in the decider on July 21st.
It was Down who lead by 0-6 to 0-5 at the conclusion of an evenly-contested first-half.
Cory Quinn and Conor Doyle grabbed five points between them for the Mourne County in that period.
But Tyrone kept in touch with Daire Gallagher’s return of three points helping them stay in the hunt for honours.
And the Red Hands youngsters powered after the break as they strung together four points on the trot to move ahead by 0-9 to 0-6 with Lee Brennan very prominent.
Down fought back with a free by Doyle cutting the gap to 0-10 to 0-9 with seven minutes remaining.
But Tyrone took control again as they hit points through substitutes Rian McHugh and McGrath before McGrath found the net.
Quinn’s fifth point of the game late on proved a consolation score for Down as Tyrone held on for victory.
