TWO MEN WHO were accused of attacking a GAA referee in July 2010 have been found guilty today, according to the RTE website.
Ugly scenes broke out at the final whistle of Louth and Meath’s Leinster Senior Football final at Croke Park nearly two years ago when referee Martin Sludden wrongly awarded Meath a winning goal in stoppage time.
Sludden was confronted by a number of fans before being hastily escorted off the field by Gardai and Joseph Conlon (23) and Paul Grimes (50), both from Dundalk, were charged with assault.
The pair denied the charges and Judge Bridget Reilly adjourned the case until today for legal submissions.
Sludden, who later admitted the error, withdrew his complaint and didn’t give evidence but Judge Reilly has found them both guilty and sentencing is due to take place this afternoon.

Just a small correction ….you don’t have to go back to 60s as Liam Sheedy inaccurately states on his assessment of tipperarys run of 5 wins in a row to capture Liam McCarthy cup , just a few short years in fact to 1997. Surprising that Liam Sheedy didn’t remember that fact as the team who achieved that milestone actually beat the team Liam was playing with “twice” during that championship the great Clare team of 1997 who also beat the holy trinity of hurling (Cork , Killen my and Tipp twice ) that year to capture the all Ireland.
@Kevin Beakey: he was answering Loughnanes quote of this team not being a good tipperary team not even a great one. The last tipp team to do it were the team of the sixties; who were considered great.
@Kevin Beakey: idiot it’s about tipperary
