HOWARD WEBB ANNOUNCED his retirement from refereeing today to take up a role as a technical director of Professional Game Match Officials Limited, which runs refereeing in England.

Whether you think he favoured Man United or not, being the first ref to take charge of the Champions League and World Cup final in the same year is a decent achievement. Anyway here is some of the Twitter reaction to the news, think most of the jokes have been exhausted by now unfortunately…

There was definitely a drop off in terms of comedy, think this next tweet captures  the general performance of the Twitter humour accounts.

Is Anders Arsenal right? What about Paul Durkin? Easily the most underrated Premier League ref of the last 10 years. And he never ruined a World Cup final.

Howard Webb to Sky Sports maybe? If Graham Poll is thought to bring something to TV then surely Webb can do the same.

Ok now it has gone too far. Sure Howard Webb was the Premier League equivalent of the NFL’s Ed Hochuli.

And now, Is this the last Ferguson/Webb photoshop?
