TV3 beats out RTÉ to rights for 2015 Rugby World Cup

The news is a big blow to the national broadcaster.

IRISH RUGBY FANS will have the choice of TV3 or ITV for television coverage of next year’s Rugby World Cup in England.

The Ballymount station will be announced as the winners of a bidding war with the national broadcaster this week, according to the Irish Times.

TV3 bosses were dealt a major blow last month when the GAA awarded 14 matches to Sky Sports for the first time and they lost their championship agreement.

However, they’ve been able to redouble their efforts to land the blue-riband rugby competition ahead of Montrose chiefs.

Details are expected to be unveiled by the IRB in the coming days.
