WATCH: Jonny Brownlee dragged to finish by brother Alastair in dramatic World Triathlon finale

After Jonny Brownlee’s legs gave out with 700m left, Alastair Bronwlee made sure his brother reached the finish in Mexico.

JONNY BROWNLEE WAS dragged over the finish line by brother and Olympic champion Alastair Brownlee as he missed out on the World Triathlon Series title in dramatic circumstances.

Having claimed silver behind elder brother Alastair at Rio 2016, Jonny Brownlee appeared set to clinch the world title as he led the Grand Final with 700 metres to go in the sweltering heat of Cozumel, Mexico.

But it was at that point the Briton’s legs began to give out, Jonny Brownlee weaving along the road on the run to the finish before appearing to come to a stop.

However, Alastair Brownlee caught up with him and refused to allow his younger sibling not to finish the race, putting Jonny’s arm over his shoulder and pulling him to the finish line.

Jonny Brownlee promptly collapsed to the ground upon crossing the line before being taken away by medics.

South Africa’s Henri Schoeman went past Jonny Brownlee to win the race, with the world title going to Mario Mola as the Spaniard finished fifth.

Brownlee’s second-placed finish sees him end the series as runner-up, though a protest against the result has been lodged.

‘We’re just looking for consistency. That certainly wasn’t out there today.’
