Trap plays it safe

Hunt and Folan return to international fold – and there’s one new face.

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI HAS named a preliminary squad of 27 players in advance of the Norway’s visit to Dublin on November 17 (ko 7.45pm).

The Italian will pick his final squad from the group for the international friendly at Lansdowne Road.

Hull City striker Caleb Folan returns while Stoke City’s Marc Wilson and Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt are also back in the fold.

Preston’s Keith Treacy gets the nod while in-form target man Jonathan Walters receives his first senior international call up.

Trapattoni said, in a statement released by the FAI this afternoon, that he is looking forward to casting an eye over the new faces:

This friendly is a good opportunity to bring some players that we have not seen much of into the squad. It is their chance to show me what they can contribute to the team.

Friendlies are extremely important for us to continue to build the strongest squad possible for the EURO qualifiers.
