'Arry's Transfer Window: Agger's set for Anfield exit while United are desperate for defenders

Brighten up your Wednesday with lashings of rumour, gossip and maybe the odd bit of truth.

THE WORLD CUP is a distant memory at this stage meaning Premier League enthusiasts only have transfer speculation, pre-season friendlies and the odd European fixture to keep you going until the season starts in a couple of weeks. However, QPR boss Harry Redknapp, a man who knows a thing or two about buying and selling players, is here to help us with a daily round-up of the biggest and best rumours from around Europe.

A lot done, more to do: After describing Manchester United’s penalty shootout victory over Inter Milan as his side’s best performance yet, Louis van Gaal also revealed he’s looking to strengthen his defence. Despite LVG admitting to liking the look of Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett, Thomas Vermaelen continues to be looked upon as a likely arrival with Daley Blind’s name also cropping up regularly though it seems any deal for Mats Hummels is a long-shot.

From Saints to sinners: Southampton have lost about eighteen first-choice players (well, five but it’s still a lot). Throw in Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez (should they force moves to Spurs) and it’s a mega-crisis at St. Mary’s. But it could get worse with rumours suggesting Nathaniel Clyne, Jose Fonte and Jack Cork are ready to leave too.

Mar-riage made in heaven? This is the front page of today’s Corriere dello Sport and it’s pretty definitive. So, the Belgian is on his way it appears. But the Italians want a loan deal with a view to a permanent switch. United want £15m. We’ll keep an eye on developments.

Miranda hearts Chelsea: Jose Mourinho has said that the Blues have already concluded their summer transfer business but some reports are saying they’ve lodged a bid of £20m for the Brazilian centre-back Miranda, currently with Atletico Madrid.

Rom’s Toffee tenure gets a little sticky: Romelu Lukaku meets up with his Chelsea team-mates today after the club put a £30m price on his head, ruling out a permanent switch to Everton. With the arrival of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba, the 21 year-old will have minimal opportunities to shine at the Bridge this season and desperately wants to leave.

Chicharito to swap Manchester for Madrid? Louis van Gaal refused to comment on Javier Hernandez’s future following the win over Inter Milan last night, only saying the Mexican is still a Manchester United player. But Diego Simeone has been doing a lot of talking about the attacker and is a big fan.

Some good news for Southampton at last? In the midst of all the bad press the Saints have received for allowing so many of their top players leave the club, one major positive has been missed: Dani Osvaldo is on his way. Inter Milan is his likely destination and after costing the club close to £13m last year, he’ll surely go down as one of the top-flights biggest flops.

Dan’s the man for Barcelona: With Liverpool bringing in centre-back Dejan Lovren, it seems Daniel Agger is inching ever closer to being pushed out of the club. This week, Catalan publication looked at Barcelona’s quest to fill the void left by Carles Puyol’s retirement and identified two possible replacements: PSG’s Marquinhos and Agger. The Dane is certainly a cheaper option and his days at Anfield look numbered.

Big Wilf to leave the Swans behind? According to Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins, if the right price is offered for Wilfried Bony, they will consider letting him go. In his first Premier League season, the Ivory Coast international scored 16 goals. But…Michu was good in his first season too, wasn’t he?

Things could still be Fab for Sunderland: It seems that Loic Remy’s failed medical got in the way of Fabio Borini moving to Sunderland while a shoulder injury picked up on Liverpool’s pre-season tour has also complicated things. But, the deal could be back on

Cuadrado’s number Juan for Barca: New Barcelona manager Luis Enrique wants to bring in mercurial Colombian Juan Cuadrado but Manchester United are very keen too. Interestingly, Louis van Gaal has spoken of his desire for new wingers as it would enable him to play a different system. With Nani expected to leave, it opens up a possible deal for the wide-man.

Douglas will Costa lot of money but Arsene is a fan: Douglas Costa wants to move away from Shakhtar Donetsk and Arsenal are top of the queue.

Mathieu to Moscow after all: Though it seemed like French midfielder Mathieu Valbuena wasn’t that interested in a move to Russia, l’Equipe are now reporting the deal is back on so disappointment for West Ham and Sam Allardyce.
