THE JANUARY TRANSFER window has been open as of midnight on Saturday, and who better to guide us through the latest wheelin’ and dealin’s than ‘Arry himself.
Just don’t use the words wheelin’ or dealin’, alright?
Maur interest: It seems inevitable that Mauro Zarate is on the move from West Ham — but where will the Argentinian striker end up? QPR were reported to have lined up a second medical but it seems Crystal Palace may have plans to gazump them.
Win some, lose some: And in this case for West Ham, it looks like they’ll definitely be losing defender Winston Reid. The defender’s contract is up in six months and this morning, Sam Allardyce said he’d be surprised if he signed a new one. Whether that means a January move, or a freebie in the summer, remains to be seen. Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to be interested.
High price to Ber: West Brom will be willing to let the non-celebrating Saido Berahino leave this month — provided his suitors pony up in excess of £20 million. Surely that will be too steep a price for Liverpool or Tottenham to pay?
Just to clarify, that’s £20m+, not £20+.
Jul do! The Daily Star reports that Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Schalke’s German international Julian Draxler. £25m is the reported price tag but City have loads of money so it’s grand.
Varane that I want: With Manchester United and Chelsea both sniffing around, Real Madrid have slapped a big £20m sticker on young French defender Raphael Varane. That’s value.
Get Real! Following this morning’s reports that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could be off to Real Madrid for £25m, Spurs have dismissed the speculation as “mischief making.” He’s off then, is he?
And we’ll just leave this here … L’Equipe report that Paris Saint-Germain wouldn’t baulk at paying £164 million for Leo Messi. Of course they wouldn’t.
What an iconic period of football it was in 98. Some proper player’s. Zidane Rivaldo Carlos Del Piero Ronaldo Bergkamp etc. Class.
@The Egyptian Kinggggggg: You know you’re getting old when you say shit like that.
@The Egyptian Kinggggggg: Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.
Throwback Thursday. World Cup 98 had some great moments. The Bergkamp goal vs Argentina, the Tartan Army on tour, a young Michael Owen, even the nike advert with the Brazilian team in the airport. Football seemed to have much more about it back then but maybe that was just looking at it through a childs eyes.
One man‘s iconic is another man‘s gaudy tat.
There are only two “Iconic” football boots.
Adidas World Cup and Puma Kings.
@Ted Logan: And the mouldy version of the World Cups – Copa Mundial. Summer’s slippers.
@Ted Logan: Absolutely.
@Ted Logan: A pure GAA lad!
Ronaldo’s were certainly iconic back then. As a young lad I loved nothing better than to walk into Champion Sports and have a gawk at the latest boots. However I soon realised no matter how many grooves Adidas added to their newest Preds, they still wouldn’t help me hit a barn door.
