THE WORLD CUP is a distant memory at this stage meaning Premier League enthusiasts only have transfer speculation, pre-season friendlies and the odd European fixture to keep you going until the season starts in a couple of weeks. However, QPR boss Harry Redknapp, a man who knows a thing or two about buying and selling players, is here to help us with a daily round-up of the biggest and best rumours from around Europe.

Verm’ warfare over: So it looks like Arsene Wenger welcomed Manchester United to bid for his soon-to-be-out-of-contract defender just to he could say, “Pffft! As if.”
The Belgian is pretty much guaranteed to leave the north London club and after many reports today that Manchester United have pulled out of the deal, we’ll be seeing Vermaelen in a Barca jersey soon enough.

Party like it’s 2006! Esteban Cambiasso is headed for the Premier League:
The Argentine midfielder is a free agent after 10 years at Inter Milan and now it looks like only fitness concerns will stop him becoming a Leicester City player.
Lower profile, higher bill: A £20 million move for Mats Hummels didn’t work out for Manchester United, so the Guardian now say that LVG will send that money plus and extra 10 (that’s £30 million) for Roma defender Mehdi Benatia.
Rain Cech: With Thibaut Courtois the big goalkeeper on Chelsea’s campus these days, the Express think the only logical step from here is for the Blues to offer former good goalkeeper Petr Cech to Real Madrid. And, because they’re a dead sound club, they’d happily take Raphael Varane off Los Blancos’ books while they’re at it.
Yet more Cavani speculation: After Liverpool’s long-shot move to lure Falcao to England fell a long way short, they’re reportedly going back to Edinson Cavani to tell him ‘You were always our first choice, honest’.
Jack the lad: Serie A giants Juventus have, according the Evening Standard, made a few discreet-but-not-so-discreet-that-we-don’t-know-about-them enquiries for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.
'Arry's Transfer Window: Cork City's Lenihan a wanted man while United bail on Vermaelen deal

Lenihan headed across the foam: Cork City have already turned down offers for full-back Brian Lenihan, but manager John Caulfield still expects a deal to be done before the window shuts. The Daily Mail say the 20-year-old’s most likely destinations are the Irish revolution at Hull or the Pulis revolution at Crystal Palace.

Eamo thought he was a headless chicken, but… Metro reckon that Manchester United’s £30+ million is instead about to be spent on Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado.
