David Silva: enjoying life in Manchester. OmniSports

Torres may yet face Ireland at Euros, Silva says

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque dropped the Chelsea striker… but he’ll back says David Silva.

MANCHESTER CITY ATTACKER David Silva insists that off-form Chelsea striker Fernando Torres will be back in the Spain squad this summer.

The mis-firing Stamford Bridge forward was omitted from the Spain squad ahead of this week’s clash with Venezuela.

Ireland continue their preparation for a Euro 2012 group which includes the world and European champions with a Dublin friendly against the Czech Republic.

“Torres is a great player and he has given a lot to the Spain national team,” said Silva. “He is not in a good moment, but he will return to his best and he will bring a lot to the team again.

“I am sure he is not well, but he is very strong and I am sure he will pick himself up.”

Silva, meanwhile, insists that he is happy with life at Eastlands. He joined City in 2010 in a reported €30 million deal after six years at Valencia, as the La Liga club were forced to sell some of their prized assets to balance their books. After a somewhat slow start to life in England, Silva has become a key member of Roberto Mancini’s squad and the 26-year-old is not thinking about leaving anytime soon.

“I was very happy at Valencia, but because of some circumstances I had to leave,” he told Onda Cero.  ”City were the ones that wanted me the most.”

“I am very happy in England, I have two years left on my contract and I want to see it out.  Right now, I do not want to return (to Spain), I am enjoying life in England, people treat me wonderfully and I want to continue enjoying this.

“Mancini has complete trust in me, which is very important for a player and I am very happy. My team-mates are adapting well to my game and that is very good for me.”
