Tony McCoy booked for two rides today -- but he only needs one win for the magic 4000

Will today be the day?

TONY MCCOY WILL have at least two shots at history today after riding his 3,999th winner at Chepstow.

Attention turns to Towcester as the racing world wills McCoy on to an unprecedented 4000, the latest landmark of a glorious career in the saddle.

He edged closer to the milestone after he picked up a spare ride on Minella for Steak and steered the 3/1 favourite to win the NFU Mutual Supports RABI Handicap Hurdle.

If number 4000 does come today, Jonjo O’Neill and JP McManus are likely to share a small piece of history as trainer and owner of both of McCoy’s mounts.

He rides Church Field in the Agetur UK Handicap Hurdle (2.10) and Mountain Tunes in the Weatherbys Novices’ Hurdle (3.10).

“I hope I don’t put the mockers on it but I’ve actually got quite a good strike-rate at Towcester,” the 39-year-old said yesterday.
