Tommy Walsh seals Sydney switch moments before trade deadline

Former Kerry forward asked to be traded to the Swans, St Kilda officials insist.

THE SYDNEY SWANS waved goodbye to one Kerryman – but they’ve moved to recruit another.

Tadhg Kennelly’s former Kingdom teammate Tommy Walsh has been traded from St Kilda in a move agreed, 15 minutes before the deadline.

“Tommy hasn’t played a senior game yet but we think he’s a fantastic key position prospect. He’s aggressive and he’s 194cms and 97 kilograms,’’ coach John Longmire said earlier.

“He competes really well and he can play at either end of the ground.’’

Tommy Walsh moved to the Melbourne club after winning an two All-Ireland titles with Kerry.

Saints fans are said to be dissapointed with the move but coach Scott Watters insisted that the Tralee man asked to be traded.

“Tom Walsh indicated to the club that he wanted to make the move to Sydney,” Saints official Ameet Bains said. “The club reluctantly engaged in discussions with the Sydney Swans on the last day of trade week when it was clear that Tommy wouldn’t be returning to the Saints.”
