After a rough 48 hours in and out of the saddle, Mark Cavendish looked to have clinched his 25th stage win when he made a dash for the finish line in Tours.

But the Manx Missile was pipped at the last by Germany’s Marcel Kittel who wrapped up a hat-trick of stages, with the green jersey of Peter Sagan back in third.
