TIPPERARY AND LEITRIM were the big winners today in Division 4 of the Allianz football league.
The pair both won their clashes to go the top of the table on seven points apiece, joining Clare on that number of points. The Banner have crucially played a game more leaving Peter Creedon and Sean O’Hagan’s teams in pole position.
Tipperary claimed a decisive 3-9 to 0-14 victory over Clare in Semple Stadium. Conor Sweeney set them on their way with a goal inside the opening minute and Barry Grogan also raised a green flag before the break.

Tipperary lead 2-5 to 0-9 at the interval but Clare could take heart from the brilliant point-taking of David Tubridy and a superb penalty save from Pierce Deloughrey to deny Grogan.
Clare began the second-half brightly and drew level at 2-6 to 0-12 by the 51st minute. However Grogan made amends for his earlier penalty to score from the spot four minutes later. From there Tipperary closed out the game for a vital four-point success.
Leitrim enjoyed a successful trip to Aughrim as they ran out 1-17 to 0-11 winners over Wicklow. Ray Cox’s late goal applied the gloss to Leitrim’s nine-point triumph.
Leitrim lead narrowly at the break by 0-8 to 0-7 and saw Wicklow miss a penalty early in the second-half when Paul Earls hit the post. From there Leitrim kicked on with Emlyn Mulligan, Aaron Hickey and Darren Sweeney amongst their pointscorers.
Elsewhere London and Carlow both picked up their first wins of the campaign. London defeated Waterford by 2-10 to 0-9 in Carriganore.
Greg Crowley and Adrian Moyles bagged the goals for a London team that led by 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval.
Carlow triumphed by 3-15 to 2-17 in a high-scoring encounter against Antrim in Dr Cullen Park. Paddy Cunningham’s goal gave Antrim the perfect start but Seamus Kinsella netted as Antrim led 1-8 to 1-7 at the break.
A Conor Murray goal helped Antrim move eight points clear before Carlow fought back with Hugh Gahan raising a green flag. Kinsella levelled the game with a goal before Paul Broderick notched the last-gasp winner.
