Tiger Woods and Davis Love III pose with the Ryder Cup in 2012

Tiger could still be Ryder Cup captain's pick

Tiger Woods will have a spot in the United States Ryder Cup team if he is healthy.

DAVID LOVE III could still make Tiger Woods one of his captain’s picks for the United States at the Ryder Cup.

Love has the advantage of still playing alongside those competing for a spot on his team this fall, but he may pick someone who is yet to feature this year.

There is almost no way Woods will come back in time to accrue enough points to be one of the top-eight players that automatically qualifies, but Love seems determined to get the 14-time major champion on his squad.

“He doesn’t have to be number nine in points to get picked,” Love said, via Golf.com. ”He’s itching to play as much as anybody. If he’s playing well, it would be hard not to go with him.”

Woods has not played since the Wyndham Championship in August after undergoing consecutive back surgeries.

Woods is anxious to get back on the course, but still has no timetable for a return.

The Ryder Cup has not been Woods’ favourite event throughout the years, which is why he owns a poor 13-14-2 record in the event.
