Tiger hurts back again as he misses cut at PGA

Woods is unsure if he would be available to play at the Ryder Cup in September if called up.

A FRUSTRATED TIGER Woods suffered a recurrence of his back injury as he missed the cut at the US PGA Championship.

The American 14-time major winner carded a second straight three-over 74 to finish at six over at the Valhalla Golf Club on Friday.

Woods, who was in doubt for the final major of the year after withdrawing from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday, hurt his troublesome back again.

“It was sore. No doubt it was sore,” he said. ”It went out on me on the range. I just had to play through it.”

Woods is unsure if he would be available to play at the Ryder Cup in September if called up as a captain’s pick by United States skipper Tom Watson.

He plans to get “stronger physically” to overcome a different injury to the one which led to him having back surgery earlier this year.

“It’s not where the surgery was. It’s a different area,” Woods said. ”When I fell out of that bunker last week, it’s the same feeling, the same pain and same spasms.”

Woods lamented his failure to make the most of what he felt was a “gettable” course as he missed the cut by five shots.

“It’s very frustrating because the golf course is gettable. It was as soft as it could be today. I was shocked we didn’t get any mud balls out there,” he said.

“You could play so aggressively to any of these flags, even three and four irons for stopping. The golf course was gettable.”
