AIDAN MCCORMACK WAS the scoring star for Thurles Sarsfields with 0-9 as the Blues advanced to next Sunday’s Clean Ireland Recycling Tipperary senior hurling championship final.
Sars, without Lar Corbett until he was introduced in the second half, did just about enough to see off the dogged resistance of the men from the north.
And victory for Sars ensures that they will line out in a fourth county decider in six years next Sunday.
McCormack was the difference on a gloomy afternoon at Semple Stadium as Sars preserved their four-point half-time advantage.
The pre-match favourites were seven points clear before Gearóid Ryan’s deflected goal brought some degree of respectability to the scoreboard from a Templederry viewpoint.
At the break, Sars were 0-9 to 0-5 clear, pulling away after the sides were level twice in the early exchanges.
In a disappointing first half, Sars had McCormack in good form from placed balls and play but they still registered nine wides before the interval.
In a game devoid of goal chances, Sars were content to keep the scoreboard ticking over and McCormack picked up where he left off in the second half.
Captain Pa Bourke also sprang to life, contributing three of his four points after the break.
Scorers for Thurles Sarsfields: Aidan McCormack 0-9 (4f), Pa Bourke 0-4, Stephen Cahill, Billy McCarthy, Denis Maher, Conor Lanigan & Michael O’Brien 0-1 each.
Scorers for Templederry Kenyons: Gearóid Ryan 1-2, Adrian Ryan 0-4 (1f), Darragh Carey, Thomas Stapleton, Padraig O’Leary, Eanna Murray & Tom Ryan 0-1 each.
