Leinster centre set for surgery on ACL injury, Wallabies international handed debut

LEINSTER’S TOM DALY will be sidelined for the start of the season after picking up an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.

The Carlow native did the damage in last weekend’s pre-season friendly defeat to Perpignan and head coach Leo Cullen confirmed today that the 24-year-old is set to undergo surgery.

The province continue their preparations for the new campaign with a match against Gloucester at St Mary’s College RFC tomorrow (7.30pm), and several players, including Rob Kearney, Dave Kearney, Jordi Murphy and Fergus McFadden, have returned to the squad.

Meanwhile, new signing Scott Fardy, the Australian international who arrives from the Brumbies, will make his debut in the second row.
